Our fourth game was against an interleague team from Eastern. We had to go to their fields to play. We had heard some bad things about that part of town, so we were not looking forward to going over there. I hate to say this, but their fields are really pretty close to the house. Anyway, I wasn’t sure how things would go. When we got over there, things were not nearly as bad as we had been led to believe. The people were very nice. I think all of the parents from the other team came by to visit with the twins. I think one of their coaches even goes to the dentist at a place I know very well. Anyway, all they had were 6 kids and they seemed very young. But they were all friendly. Lane played some first base and played in the dirt some. We also got Lane a new bat and he was really ready to use it. He said that he did’t use the bat very well, but I had to remind him that one ball he hit went flying past the pitcher in the air. That brought a smile to his face. GO DRILLERS!!

Our third game against La Vega’s #2 teed ball team strarted out with some uncertainty. I didn’t know if we were even going to have enough kids to really play. I only had 7 kids until about 6:00pm when the game was supposed to start. We finally got started playing at 6:10pm. We actually had an umpire for this game even though all he did was call time out, and place the ball on the tee. We had many bathroom and water breaks by the kiks. We also had the same two kids playing in the dirt and fighting. One of my kids thinks that every ball should be his and he gets a little mad when he doesn’t get any balls hit to him. He’s even ran from left field al the way to right field to get the ball and he jumped on one or two of his own team members to get the ball. The other kid likes to pick on members of his team and throw rocks at them also. He even told me that he didn’t have to do what I told him because I wasn’t in charge of him. Luckily his mother was right there to correct him. I even had one kid need to go to the bathroom so he pulled his pants down in the outfield and went potty. At least he turned around. Lane played well and shortstop. He even stopped a hard hit ball and almost threw the kid out at first. He also hit the ball hard two times. One time was a line drive that flew past the pitcher. Way to go Lane. GO DRILLERS!!

Well we had our secound game against the Lakeview tee ball team coached my Jimenez at Lakeview fields. The other team was really playing to win as was evident by their final batter technique. When the last batter hits, they simply run all the way around the bases. Well, that’s all fine and dandy, except that their pitcher would get the ball and tag everyone out that was coming down the baseline. I mean, come on, in a real game that wouldn’t happen, because if he was standing there, we souldn’t be running. I thought that was kinda in bad taste. But anyway, whatever. They also really took advantage of the fact that it takes a five year old a little time to get the ball back to the pitcher. So they ran their kids as far as they could. Good strategy if competitive, bad taste if not. They were fun people though. We had a couple of kids playing in the dirt and throwing rocks. One of these kids was pretending to be a bulldozer. One of the boys has a bad habit of hitting his own players on his team. Lane hit the ball well and played well in the field. GO DRILLERS!!

Well opening day went pretty much like I figured for the Brazos Family Dentistry Drillers. Very unorganized. Our game was scheduled for 9am and pictures were supposed to be at 8:30am. Well, by 8:45am the photographers still hadn’t gotten to us yet. At about 8:50am they were calling for all the teams to come out on the field for roll call so they could introduce all the players to everyone. We were just walking over to have our group picture taken. Then we had to take all our individual pictures. To top things off, I was still missing a player, who never made it for the group picture. I don’t know if she ever was able to have her individual picture taken or not. It was a little stressful at first, but once we made it over to the field everything was fine.
We played a team that we were familiar with. It happened to be the same team, a team from our league, that we scrimmaged on Thursday afternoon. Things went just as I had expected with the playing in the dirt, and the dirt angels, and the picking on each other by the kids that go to school together (yes, one of them was Lane). Things also went as expected with Hanna still being fast. Lane, Tony and Izaiah hitting the ball hard. And the bathroom runs. Lane’s grandpa was the bat boy, and Brooke and Brady were good at the game with all the people around. All in all, I had a blast being out there with the kids, and I think that they had fun too. The next game in Friday April 1, 2011 at 6:00pm at the fields behind La Vega high school. GO DRILLERS!!
